USS Essex CV-9 Aircraft Carrier

The USS ESSEX was the lead ship of the Essex Class of aircraft carriers and the fourth ship in the Navy to bear the name. It was commissioned on December 31, 1942 and reached the Pacific Fleet in August 1943.
